1. Clean & Healthy Environment (25.06.2015)

Right to study in a healthy environment was created for all our students. The length and breadth of our College campus was cleared by removing all the unwanted plants, weeds and other materials. The students were received this academic year by a clean and healthy campus. They were extremely happy to see the campus neat and thanked our staff for all the efforts taken by them.

2. Motivational Address (17.07.2015)

We commenced the year with a highly motivated Address by Ms. D.Shoba Devi, alumni of our College who was recruited as Civil Judge. She is now appointed as Fast Track Court Judge in Nagercoil. She addressed on the topic “Creation of an elevating influence upon the intellect of the budding lawyers”. She also inspired the students by providing details as to how the Judicial Service Exams can be cracked. Provided various guidance pertaining to the books, site and other coaching centres available.
Ms. Sahanas Banu & Ms. Sabina former alumini of our College and at present Mr. Banu is serving in Land Grabbing Court, Cuddalore addressed on the topic ‘Role of women in Judiciary’.
Mr. Praveen Kumar former student of our college enlightened the students on “Obedience to Lawful Authority is the foundation of Manly character”. All these motivational lectures has a great impact on the students. They thanked the Principal and Staff for organizing such beneficial lectures.

3. Development of Communication Skills

To promote communication skills for our students, special English Spoken Camp was organized for four consecutive Saturdays from 18th July 2015. In spite of being on a Saturday, students came in very good numbers participated in the sessions and were highly benefitted. It was headed by S.Gautama Course Director – Sri Sairam Academy of English Studies and Research. He also provided study materials to the students titled. “Basic English Communication & Basic English Grammar – Easy way’. The course director took laudable efforts to nuture the language by providing lucid explanations and examples, which is highly commendable.

4. Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (27.07.2015)

The students numbering more than 100 of our College joined hands with Coimbatore Cattle Care & Welfare Trust, organized rallies and created awareness among the public about various Legislations available for the protection of animals in India. The effort of our students was highly appreciated by the public.

5. Tributes paid to Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam( 29.07.2015)

The Principal, Staff and students of our college observed mourning on the demise of former President of India Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, floral tributes were paid to the departed soul followed by a special address by our Principal Dr.K.S Gopalakrishnan, who brought to light the achievements and dedicated work of APJ to our students.

6. Ameliorate the playgrounds(10.08.2015)

In order to enable our students to utilize the play ground for practice sessions for various tournaments, Earthmovers, Bulldozers and other machinery were hired for clearing the playground. Thus the sports club students were highly indebted to the Principal and staff for enabling them to have good playground which would facilitate them to practice better. The NSS Volunteers also helped our staff to clean the playground.

7. Thirukural competition (14.08.2015)

The TNDALU instructed to conduct oratorical and essay competitions relating to Thiruvalluvar Day Celebration. In furtherance of which oratorical competition was conducted in the title “ Ethics in Thirukural and an essay writing competition on the title “Valluvar-Life and Ethics”. Students enthusiastically participated in the contests. On 28.10.2015. Prof.R.Kumudha and five other students participated and presented research papers on Thirukural and various laws in the one day national seminar on Thriukural & Thiruvalluvar in TNDALU, Chennai.

8. Moot court training for final years

For final year students, to develop their argument skill and to learn the court manners, we have trained them by conducting moot court in three phases in three branches civil, criminal and constitutional law.

9. Seminars

To develop the subject knowledge and to remove stage fear of our students, we have conducted regular seminar classes for our students by allotting them a particular topic on the subjects. The performances of the students have to be highly appreciated.

10. Independence Day celebrations (15.08.2015)

Our Principal Dr.K.S.Gopalakrishnan hoisted the national flag and addressed the students. All the staff and more than 200 students participated in the celebration. Sweets were distributed and Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner.

11. Toppers is 5year BA LLB prefered GLC - CBE

In the academic year 2015-2016, first 3 students selected in the common selection preferred Coimbatore Law College, Ajith Prabhakar with a cut off 99.375 of the 5,365 candidates, wanted to be placed in our college, followed by R.Vennila & Sabari Nivetha. They chose GLC – CBE because of the well trained professors and location of the College in the foot hills of Western Ghats, clean and calm atmosphere of our college.

12. Tree Plantation Programme

Our College NSS Units along with Daksha Property Developers planted more than 50 plants & tree saplings in and around the college campus and hostels also. The saplings are protected with a tree guard, watered and maintained regularly.

13.Installation of Public Addressing System

Technologically advanced Public Addressing System has been installed in the college auditorium for the effective reach of programs, which are conducted for our students.

14.Teachers Day celebration (04.09.2015)

On 04.09.2015 Teachers day was celebrated in our college campus. Our students honoured all the teachers and paid their respects to them. Principal and faculty members addressed the students and reciprocated their wishes.

15.Memorandum of Understanding with Bharathiar University

On the request of our sports students, we entered into an MOU with Bharathiar University to use their ground for athletics and sports events.

16.Special lecture (10.09.2015)

In order to enumerate the importance of parents, teacher and law among the students we have organized a special lecture where Prof.P.Suriyanarayanan delivered lecture on the topic of “Father, Mother,Teacher and Law - An Analysis”. He threw light on the role of father, mother and teacher in shaping a students life.

17.Welcome party for I year LL.M (11.09.2015)

On 11.09.2015, a welcome party was arranged for I LL.M. by the II LL.M. students, which was headed by the Principal and Professors. An occasion to show the unity and integrity of our students. The II year Post Graduate students extended warm and hearty welcome to their juniors. This is the first year where such a welcome party for freshers was celebrated for PG students.

18.Inauguration of First Year Classes (16.09.2015)

Welcome Party function for 3 year & 5 year Law course was held on 16.09.2015 at College Auditorium. It was presided over and inaugurated by Advocate Ms.R.Thenmozhi, President, Coimbatore Women Advocates Association. Her thought provoking and inspiring address highly motivated the freshers and the students listened to her address in rapt attention.

19.Human Rights Workshop (18.09.2015 to 20.09.2015)

An NGO by name People’s Watch conducted a special workshop for law students at Government Law College, Trichy from 18.09.2015 to 20.09.2015, in which 20 students from GLC Coimbatore participated.

20.Medical Camp (22.09.2015):

A special medical camp was conducted for the benefit of our college students on 22.09.2015. Two renowned hospitals of Coimbatore, Ashwin Hospital and Lotus Eye hospital conducted it.

21. Elocution Competition on “Role of students in Forest Conservation” (25.09.15)

An elocution competition was conducted to mark Forest Conservation Week. The topic was ‘Role of Students in Forest Conservation’. A student from Final BL Sadam Hussain won at college level and was sent to District level competition. He also bagged the first prize and was made eligible to participate in State Level Competition. The above said student won at State Level Competition also thus bringing laurels to this institution.

22. Gandhi Jeyanthi Day Celebration–Observance of Non-violence week (06.10.15)

As part of the week long celebrations held for Gandhi Jayanthi day Special address on Law, Culture & Humanity was delivered by Prof. Suriyanarayanan. Principal enlightened the students on the Life of Gandhiji Tree plantation along with Tree guards were also conducted..

23. Prevention of Dengue fever (09.10.2015)

In order to protect our students from dengue fever the entire college campus along with hostel premises were sprayed with Anti Mosquito repellant in co-ordination with Corporation Authorities.

24. Cyber Security Awareness Week (18.10.2015)

In order to keep pace with the growing technological advancements and issues arising because of online transactions care-was taken to arrange for a special address to the students by Mr.Sundara Kadeswaran – Advocate Specialist in Cyber Law the advised the students relating to various cyber crimes pertaining to phishing, stalking cyber morphing etc and also Emerging Issues in cyberspace. He also alerted the students while using social media network like Face Book, Twitter, Whats app etc. Ms Hema Sri – Advocate and Software Analyst addressed our students on the intricacies involved in cyberspace. There was tremendous response from the students and they had a good interactive session.

25.Youth Empowerment Day (15.10.2015)

As per the directions of Tamil Nadu Government, the birthday of our former President of India late.Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was celebrated as Youth Empowerment Day, where Principal administered Oath to the students and staff of our College.

26. Special Address on legal profession

In order to enumerate the importance of Law among students Mr.T.Lakshmanan, Joint Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Board spoke on the title “Legal Profession is a Divine Profession -a review”.

27. Vigilance Awareness Week (30.10.2015)

Under the instructions from the Respected Director of Legal Studies, we observed Vigilance Awareness Week from 26.10.2015 to 31.10.2015. Our Principal(i/c) Dr.K.S.Gopalakrishnan, Mr. M. Ramesh and other faculty members delivered special lectures to create awareness among the students. They spoke on Right to Information Act –Perspectives and consequences measures to curb corruption etc.

28. Communal harmony week (25.11.2015) ‘Need for Communal Harmony for Development of Nature’

As per the directions of the Respected Director of Legal Studies, Communal Harmony week was observed. The Principal and other faculties delivered lectures on communal harmony with due diligence for the students in order to enable them to live in a conducive environment and in harmony.

29. Hostel campus cleaning (03.12.2015)

On 03.12.2015 our college NSS volunteers worked vigorously to remove the weeds, unwanted shrubs and cleared the boys hostel campus as part of their regular activity. The inmates of the hostel were highly contended.

30. Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Memorial Day celebration (04.12.2015)

On the memorial day of the of the legal legend Dr.B.R. Ambedkar, we organised respectful tribute in our College by paying floral tributes by the Principal, Staff and students. Followed by which Principal enlightened the gathering about the life of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar. Students also spoke about role of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar in framing of our constitution.

31. Flag day Celebration (07.12.2015)

On 07.12.2015, our college NSS volunteers celebrated Flag Day by collecting fund from Professors, non – teaching staff and students. They also explained them about the sacrifices of martyrs and the importance of Flag Day.

32. Human Right Day – Special address (11.12.2015)

On the Human Rights day our Principal(i/c) Dr.K.S.Gopalakrishnan gave a special address to the students of I LL.B.
Following that a conference was organized in Bharathiar University on the topic “Human Rights Violation Vis-à-vis Death Penalty a Critical analysis”. On behalf of Government Law College our Principal(i/c) K.S.Gopalakrishnan was invited as the chief guest and he delivered a highly inspiring and thought provoking lecture.

33. Camp for issuing certificates (14.12.2015 to 28.12.2015)

In pursuance of the Government Order for the benefit of students affected due to the recent flood which hit Chennai in the months of November and December, 2015 many students belonging to Chennai, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur district who had lost their certificates were benefitted. A camp was organized for the students in our college to obtain their certificates. Of which nine students were able to get the benefits of the camp.

34. “Indian Laws Vis a Vis Americian Laws – A Comparitive Analysis “– Dr. Upendra Acharya, Associate Professcer, Gonzaga Law School Gonzaga University, Washington

It was a red letter day in the history of Government Law College, Coimbatore because a Professor visiting from Washington was first of its kind. We were fortunate to hear from Dr. Upendra Acharya. The students were very receptive and threw brilliant questions to the Guest of Honour.

35. National Voter’s Day Celebration (25.01.2016)

National voter’s day was celebrated on 25.01.2016 and oath was administered by the Principal(i/c) and followed by all faculty members, staff and students. The importance of voting was elucidated and it was ensured that all should cast their vote without fail.

36. Republic Day Celebration(26.01.2016)

On 26.01.2016, our college Principal hoisted the national flag and delivered Republic Day, address More than 150 students participated in the Republic Day celebrations. Sweets were distributed to the students.

37. Intra – mural competitions (02.02.2016 – 04.02.2016)

Our college intra-mural competitions including cricket,volley ball, badminton and athletics were conducted from 02.02.2016 to 04.02.2016 under the guidance of Physical Director (i/c) Mr. L.Arun.

38. Special Lecture at Bharathiar University (03.02.2016)

On 03.02.2016 and 05.02.2016 Prof.Dr.K.S.Gopalakrishnan, Principal (i/c), Prof. P.Sivathas, Prof.A.Raja and Prof.R.Kumudha delivered a special lecture on various fields of law at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore organised by Social Works Department of the University.

39. Court visit instruction class (04.02.2016)

On 04.02.2016 we have arranged instruction classes for our final year students for attending court visit meticulously and to take the best benefit of the court visit and chamber visits.

40. Free Dental Camp(05.02.2016)

On 05.02.2016, our college Youth Red Cross headed by its co-ordinator R.Kumudha Asst. Professor has conducted a free dental check up camp in association with Ramakrishna Dental College, Coimbatore. More than 500 students and staff were benefitted.

41. Sports Day (06.02.2016)

On 06.02.2016 our college sports day was celebrated by our students and prize distribution function was conducted by our Physical Director (i/c) Mr. L.Arun in our college auditorium. More than 450 students participated in that programme. Prof.Dr. K.S.Gopalakrishnan, Principal (i/c) presided over the function and distributed prizes to the winners.

42. Kaliru Project (12.02.2016)

On 12.02.2016 Coimbatore Anna University has co-ordinated a program in the name of Kaliru Project to protect and safeguard human beings from the attacks of wild animals. Our college hostel boys headed by Prof.A.Raja represented our college. In continuation of that event a Siren has been installed in our college premises which will be alerted by the forest department which indicates the movement of wild animals.

43. Trichy Tamil Moot – Video Conferencing (19.02.2016)

On 19.02.2016, to motivate our students about moot competitions, we have arranged video conference to watch Tamil Moot Inaugural function organised by Govt.Law College, Trichy.

44. Special Lecture on Professional Ethics (25.02.2016)

On 25.02.2016, we had invited Advocate.Mrs.Vanitha Rosy, to deliver a special lecture on professional ethics and she has motivated our students about legal profession, ethics to be followed by lawyers and how law students should observe the court etiquettes. More than 400 students participated in the programme and they were really inspired by the motivational address.

45. Perum Thalaivar Jeeva Endownment Scholorship Award Function (01.03.2016)

On 01.03.2016, we have arranged a grand function to honour the awardees of Perum Thalaivar Jeeva Endowment Scholarship. Advocate Mr.Loganathan, Secretary, Coimbatore Bar Association presided over as chief guest and distributed the scholarship award for our students. 19 students of our College received the award both in undergraduate and Post Graduate level of studies.

46. All India Bar Council Examination (06.03.2016)

On 06.03.2016 in our college, All India Bar Council Examination was conducted by Bar Council of India under the supervision of Dr.K.S.Gopala krishnan, Principal (i/c), Dr.S.Durgalakshmi,. P.Sivathas, and R.Kumudha in the presence of TamilNadu Bar Council member Mr.R.Arunachalam and team of officials. Totally 427 candidates applied for the exam and 417 appeared and gave their exams. Exams were very strictly and systematically conducted.

47. Women’s Day Celebrations (08.03.2016)

On 08.03.2016, our college women faculties– teaching staff, more than 300 girl students participated and celebrated International Women’s Day in a grand manner. Talent shows, cultural and stage-plays were organised by girl students which stole the hearts of the audience.

48. Essay writing Competition on Consumer Awareness (10.03.2016)

On 10.03.2016, the preliminary selection round for essay writing competition on Consumer Awareness was conducted on eve of World Consumer Rights Day by Consumer chair with the help of its volunteers, both in English and Tamil. 18 students participated and top 2 ranker each in Tamil and English have been selected for final competition which is going to be held in 1st week of April 2016 at TNDALU, Chennai. The programme was co-ordinated by our Consumer Chair-College co-ordin ator –Prof.P.Sivathas.

49. Participation in workshop on Antibiotics off the Menu (15.03.2016)

Our college Consumer Chair volunteers numbered 10 students along with Our Consumer Chair - college co-ordinator Prof. P.Sivathas have attended the National Level Workshop on “Antibiotics off the Menu –Issues and Challenges” held at TNDALU, Chennai. Previously in September 2015, the Consumer Chair volunteers have done a field survey on consumer literacy at 20 various places in and around Coimbatore District.

50. Legal Awareness Programme for Women (16.03.2016 & 17.03.2016)

On 16.03.2016 & 17.03.2016 our college has organised a Legal Awareness Programme for Women in co-ordination with Bharathiar University Arts and Science College, Goodalur which was sponsored by National Women’s Commission, New Delhi.

51. Legal Intellectual Club

To promote the legal knowledge and to create the interest to know about the latest amendments, recent case laws and recent trend of judiciary, we have inaugurated a club for our students in the name of Legal Intellectual Club. The student members of the club assemble every thursday under the guidance of Assistant Professors R.Ammu and L.Arun and discuss various issues.

52. Moot Club

To encourage the interest and to train the students for moot court we have created a moot club for our students in the name of GLC, CBE, MOOT CLUB. Every Wednesday the students assemble and discuss about the various nuances of moot court and have mock moot of students going for various moot court competitions. They also get many valuable advice under the guidance of Assistant Professors. Dr.S.Durga Lakshmi and Mr. P.Sivathas.

53. Cultural Competition Club

To develop the cultural talents of our students, we have created a club in the name of Cultural Competition Club. The club has conducted many screening test for our students who are willing to participate in inter college competitions and send the selected students for other college competitions. Every Tuesday the club members assemble under the guidance of Assistant Professors A.Raja and R.Kumutha. The Students have brought laurels to our College by winning numerous prizes.

54. Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribes Act amendment awareness program (16.03.2016)

On request of Schedule caste & Schedule Tribes Welfare Department we sent our faculty Assistant Professor A.Raja to give a Special Lecture on Prevention Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Atrocity Bill-2014 to Government Officers who participated from various departments.

55. NSS Special Camp (19.03.2016 – 24.03.2016)

Our college NSS units I and II have arranged a special camp for this academic year at Government School exclusively for the Blind students in Uliyampalayam from 19.03.2016 to 24.03.2016. There our NSS students have done lot of service works for the blind students. They cleared the whole campus by removing unwanted thorns, shrubs, weeds etc and planted more trees saplings. The school building was white washed by our students. On the special request of the students and Staff. Tirukural was also written on the boundary wall along with good number of painting shimptrus food was provided to the inmates of the school. We also distributed lunch box and water bottle to all the students.

56. Moot Court Hall Inauguration 28.03.2016:

Our Principal Dr.K.S. Gopalakrishnan inaugurated the moot court hall along with all the faculty members & students. He addressed the students on various nuances of mock trial and dedicated the moot hall to the students.
